thankful thursday

1. had an encouraging conversation with a regular at the coffee shop about a potential job opportunity … and whether or not anything comes of it, it was still an encouraging conversation!

2. nuts. i eat waaay too many nuts. it cannot be healthy to eat as many nuts as i do. 

3. switched shifts with a coworker last weekend (at her request), so instead of working 10am - 3pm i worked 6am - 8am.  um, YES thank you! i will open at 6am if it means i get my whole saturday back. (if i could just work 6am to 9am at the coffee shop every day that would just be awesome.)

4. baking cookies during my early early shifts at work last week. and some especially adorable rice krispies treats (with sprinkles and white chocolate drizzle)! (while dancing around to the new she & him album. among other things. if you have to be at work at 5am, might as well make the best of it!)

5. friday church staff (that is: me, j lush, PT, and PT’s sweet wife ashley) lunch date at trattoria last week! and a visit to the peanut depot (it’s a thing) because why not.  

6. the pair of nike running shorts that i wear aaall the time. so awesomely comfortable. they’re not even mine. i mean, they’re mine now, but by secondhand. (much like the hoodie that i stole from dianna i don’t know how long ago.) (discursus: i’m convinced i’ll never be a proper iron tribe-r because i don’t wear lululemon. everyone there wears lululemon! that stuff is toooo expensive, people. and the quality of my gap tights is just as good and less than half the price sooo i don’t think i’ll be converting anytime soon.)

7. freshly laundered bedsheets!

8. guys. i get paid to sit in an office and listen to spotify and make newsletters and bulletins and visit babies in the daycare down the hall. (well … more or less. there’s also financial records and other office-y stuff like that. and i’m not actually getting paid to visit the babies. but you get the point.) 

9. hey there’s this thing i’m doing on memorial day and because you’re my friend you want to support me yes?! i’d appreciate it unspeakably much.

10. went running with katie the other morning. besides the fact that it was 6am and i was, you know, running, it was actually quite pleasant.

11. waiting on one last grade to be posted but presently i rocked my last semester as a master’s student with an a, a-, and a-! 

12. my eyes have been green lately. i have hazel eyes, so sometimes they’re kind of golden, and sometimes more brown, but recently they have been decidedly green. awesome.

13. playing words with friends with my sister. love that. love her. :D

and it’s 20 minutes for 1 REP MAX DEAD LIFT (followed by an AMRAP of course).

OH. YES! 

(i’m still sore from friday’s open gym though: both shoulders from those pull ups and hamstrings from dead lifts. sometimes i worry i don’t get a good workout on open gym days, but this two day soreness says i did something right!)

also: tomorrow morning is day 1 of this summer’s half marathon training. which probably means i’ll be run a total of maybe 3 miles before swearing off running for another week ha!

WOD: open gym

open gym today at iron tribe!

1. worked on my pull-ups. in last week’s WOD, jane suggested i move to a smaller power band. (apparently mine looked to “easy.” although they didn’t feel easy!) so i did several rounds with the smaller band, probably averaging about 4 pull-ups per round. (i eked out ONE pull-up with the tiniest band, just because i wanted to see if i could. i am getting stronger!) jordan said i need to pop my hips more on my kip. so what’s new? (maybe i need a little more coaching with this hip thing? AHEM.) (oh i said it!) 

2. moved up in weight on dead lifts! (i love dead lifts. so given an open WOD, i will do dead lifts every. time.) i wasn’t really trying to find a 1 rep max (and i didn’t) although jane suggested my 1 RM is probably around 160, give or take 5lbs. i got up to 3 reps at 125lbs— the most i’ve ever attempted to lift! i started at 105lbs, did about 10 lifts, went up to 110lbs, did maybe 5 or 6 lifts, and finally 125lbs, did a few rounds of up to 3 lifts, and scaled back down. new PR though so yay!

3. at the end of the class period i did a round of 55lbs front squats because squats. my hands were torn up by this point from the pull-ups and dead lifts … and my clavicle is still bruised from the front squats and jerks on monday … so i wasn’t particularly trying to push around any weight here. just … you know … squats = butt … so why not throw some more in? 

thankful thursday

1. final papers and exams were less stressful than they should have felt last week. also that none are hanging over my head post graduation. (because the finals period actually extends for another week. whaaat?)

2. awesome i’m-done-with-finals weekend in atlanta! ran a 5k. went to a concert. lots of yummy food. 

3. walking to and from flying biscuit for a very tasty brunch with katie. weather was so very pleasant too!

4. bandaids from the shaky knees’ first aid tent. God bless.

5. dry clothes after a very wet & cold few hours at the aforementioned shaky knees festival … and ordering chinese food at 10:30pm. chinese delivery has never been so appreciated.

6. loved my graduation dress. (with thanks to my stepmom for purchasing it for me while i was at home last month!)

7. and had a delightful graduation lunch with family and j lush and katie!

8. oh yeah hey i’m a master of theological studies now. the graduation ceremony was really quite meaningful and well done. (each of the faculty members prayed for and blessed each graduate individually! 100% certain i’ve never been so completely covered in prayer, nor by people with such ordained authority.)  

9. my twin sister aaall the way in oklahoma was able to watch the live stream of the commencement & consecration! 

10. ally complimented my “ass.” i’m still not convinced my butt has achieved ass status yet, but guys i’m totally getting there. :D
